Norman R. Farnsworth PhD,
Renowned Medicinal Plant Researcher
Renowned pharmacognosist and internationally-respected medicinal plant research expert, Norman R. Farnsworth, PhD, died on September 10 at a Chicago hospital. He was 81 and had been in declining health for months, suffering from long-term congestive heart failure and type 2 diabetes.

The ICSB organizing committee will be putting together a commemorative session honoring Norman Farnsworth and his contributions to the field of natural products and botanicals. It is the intent of this session to capture how Norman's research, life's work and collegial interactions have impacted all of us.

The National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR) within the School of Pharmacy at The University of Mississippi is located in North Western Mississippi. Memphis Tennessee is the nearest airport (MEM). Oxford Mississippi is Approximately 70 miles South of Memphis.
Shuttle service is available through the conference registration web page at a cost of $50 each way or $100 roundtrip. Rental cars are an option and driving directions can be seen below or downloaded here. During the conference, local shuttles to and from the conference center to hotels are provided.

From Memphis to Oxford Conference Center:
- Leave the airport going WEST on Winchester - go about 1/4 mile to Airways.
- Take a LEFT on Airways and head SOUTH for two miles to Shelby Drive.
- Take a Right on Shelby Drive and head WEST for 1/2 mile to I-55 SOUTH (JACKSON/GRENADA)
- The I-55 SOUTH exit is a LEFT hand turn. Go SOUTH for about 45 minutes.
- Take the second exit at Batesville (243A) - University of Mississippi/Oxford MS-6 EAST
- Drive 22 miles EAST to Oxford
- Take the 5th Exit: Highway 7
- Turn NORTH or LEFT
- Continue on Highway 7 to Sisk avenue exit. Go EAST or RIGHT after exiting.
- Take the next RIGHT on to Ed Perry Boulevard where the Conference Center is located.
- Leave the airport going WEST on Winchester - go about 1/4 mile to Airways.
- Take a LEFT on Airways and head SOUTH for two miles to Shelby Drive.
- Take a Right on Shelby Drive and head WEST for 1/2 mile to I-55 SOUTH(JACKSON/GRENADA)
- The I-55 SOUTH exit is a LEFT hand turn.
- Go SOUTH for about 45 minutes. Take the second exit at Batesville (243A) - University of Mississippi/Oxford MS-6 EAST
- Drive 22 miles EAST to Oxford
- Take the 3rd Exit: Old Taylor Road
- Turn NORTH or LEFT on Old Taylor Road Follow Old Taylor Road to the University Avenue and turn LEFT.
- At the next stop sign, continue straight ahead to the welcoming booth and request a visitor-parking pass.
- We are the second building on the left past the welcoming center but the visitor parking area is further down the road at the Lyceum loop.
Alternate Driving directions – More scenic and slightly faster
- Leave the airport going East on Winchester (the first RIGHT)- go about 15-20 minutes to Highway 78.
- Take a RIGHT onto Highway 78. Heading towards Holly Springs, MS/ Birmingham, AL.
- Drive approximately 35 miles to Holly Springs-Oxford Exit 30 (Highway 7 South). Head SOUTH/RIGHT.
- Travel approximately 25 Miles to the Oxford area.
- Take the second major exit - Sisk Avenue. Go EAST or LEFT after exiting.
- Take the next RIGHT on to Ed Perry Boulevard where the Conference Center is located.
From Memphis to NCNPR
- Leave the airport going East on Winchester (the first RIGHT) - go about 15-20 minutes to Highway 78.
- Take a RIGHT onto Highway 78. Heading towards Holly Springs, MS/Birmingham, AL.
- Drive approximately 35 miles to Holly Springs-Oxford Exit 30 (Highway 7 South). Head SOUTH/RIGHT.
- Travel approximately 25 Miles to the Oxford area.
- Take the 4th Exit, Highway 6 Heading WEST/RIGHT.
- Take the 2nd Exit: Old Taylor Road.
- Turn NORTH or RIGHT on Old Taylor Road.
